During Term 4 Aden and Nina made a car track for our school.
They had to plan and create this.
Aden is very proud of his work and loves seeing other children playing on the car track.
Check out Aden's Slides from what he did.

Term 4: Notes
Please remember to bring your sunhat to school everyday! From week 2 if we don't have our sunhat we would have to sit under a tree during break times. Our sun hats need to have a brim on them.
We are currently doing Athletics practice. This means that we need to wear sensible shoes that we can run, jump and throw in. Our sun hat's will also help us as it gets hot doing athletics in the sun in the afternoon.

Creating Compound Sentences
In writing today with Mrs Hefferman we were learning how to take two simple sentences and join them together using a conjunction.
We used this powerpoint to help us with our learning.
Here are our compound sentences we created with the conjunction underlined.
We will be trying to add this kind of sentence into our writing very soon!

Stop Motion
To make a Stop Motion you have to move the object a very little bit and then take a picture.
If you take lots of photos then it will make the video longer.
You have take photos of the small movements.

Rockets Reading Group
Last week we read a book about Hens. We read the information and then summarised it in our own words. Have a listen to our Chatterpix creations and see if we can teach you something about hens! Well done to Tia, Karaitiana and Sadie.
Information Reports Spitfires Group
At writing time last week the Spitfires were using the information from their book about Tyrannosaurus Rex to write information reports. Then they recorded their writing using Chatterpix app on the iPads. They found out a lot of interesting information! Well done Skyla, Heidi, Kaleb, and Patrick.
Leave us a comment with a question about something you would like us to find out about Dinosaurs!

Seeding Potatoes!
Over the past week a few children from Matai got some potatoes ready for seed.
We had to place them onto an egg tray and then put them in a dark place. We decided that the old filing cabinet in the old ESOL room was perfect for it.
One week on this is what they are looking like. We wonder how long it will take before we can plant them? Could anyone help us?

Sustainability and Recycling
Welcome back to Term 3!
We hope you all had an enjoyable 2 weeks - we are back into learning and the children are settling back into the school routine.
This term we are learning about Sustainability and Recycling with a focus on Visual arts - leading up to a whole school art exhibition later on in the term - So exciting!!
To start us off we looked at what we were putting in the rubbish, recycling and worm farm bins in the Learning Space...the answer is not what was supposed to be in the bins!
We are working on ways to help remind us how to Reduce, reuse and recycle our rubbish - Mr Barrow even popped in to the hall to see how we were getting on.
We have decided we need to make posters to help people know what should go in each bin - come into Matai and have a look at what we are doing!

Explain Everything: My Favourite Page
Over the past couple of weeks Mr Gibson's literacy learners have been learning how to take a photo using the app Explain Everything.
First they had to download the template of our site. Then they had to pick their favourite page from a book and use the camera tool on Explain Everything. After that we had to crop the photo to fit it into the box. Finally we had to save and upload it onto our Google Drive.
To begin with we were excited about learning the new skill but then some of us found it really tricky. It was great to have some buddies to help us if we got stuck (and of course Mr Gibson)
Take a look at the video.

Addition and Subtraction
The Spheres were learning about addition and subtraction with 10 as one of the numbers in the equation. We are learning to do this mentally and how to count forwards and backwards using a number line. We used Explain Everything to record our findings.
